Botswana is an African success story. It achieved independence from Britain in 1966 and soon after discovered three of the worlds richest diamond mines. The majority of the population live in the narrow eastern corridor. Botswana is a largely roadless wilderness of savannas, deserts, wetlands and salt pans. April to August, the dry season, is best for wildlife viewing.
